May 18, 2018 – PASS Coalition Submits Letter to Hawaii Governor Expressing Concern Over State Legislation Banning FDA-Approved Sunscreen Ingredients

Recently, the Hawaii state legislature passed a bill that Hawaii Governor Ige signed signed into law that bans the sale of sunscreens beginning January 1, 2021 containing oxybenzone and octinoxate – two ingredients that are approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and are found in over 70% of available sunscreen products for their ability to provide superior protection against UVA and UVB rays. A ban on these ingredients leaves Hawaiians with fewer options to protect themselves from harmful UV radiation and associated skin cancer risks.
